Einhell manufactures successfully and sustainably in Europe

In April this year, Einhell Germany AG, a leading supplier of cordless tools and garden equipment, opened a new European production facility just outside the Hungarian city of Nagykanizsa. Some 60,000 chargers have already been produced at this ultramodern production facility, while the first battery packs were completed in late October. A million battery packs and 500,000 chargers are expected to be manufactured in the coming year.

In April this year, Einhell Germany AG opened a new European production facility for Power X-Change batteries and chargers.
“With this site in eastern Europe, we have substantially strengthened our supply chain, primarily by reducing delivery periods sharply,” said Dr. Markus Thannhuber, CTO of Einhell Germany AG. “Our declared aim is to gradually obtain the widest possible range of components from local suppliers in order to further optimize our supply chain.” Given the shorter routes, the production in Hungary is intended primarily for the European market.

Persuasive benefits of the location

The location in southwestern Hungary and the proximity to the Croatia-Slovenia-Hungary border triangle on Lake Balaton were persuasive factors in the decision-making process, offering the best conditions, especially in relation to infrastructures and the relative proximity to direct freeway access to the Einhell headquarters in Landau an der Isar, a rail connection and the sea ports in Trieste and Koper. In particular, the expertise of the workforce, the high degree of industrialization, and the advanced level of digitalization will enable the German company to manufacture efficiently, cost-effectively and to high standards of quality.

“We want our plant in Hungary not only to provide security of supply, but also to drive sustainability and innovation and to safeguard the long-term success of the Einhell Group. We believe that we can meet the high demands of the consumer goods market through lean, efficient, and digitalized processes in eastern Europe,” Einhell CTO Dr. Markus Thannhuber continued.

More sustainable digital networking of production

Promoting the circular economy by reusing resources, such as the use of recycled materials where plastics are needed, is crucial to Einhell Germany AG at the new manufacturing facility. Einhell also seeks to localize component manufacturing in order to shorten shipping distances and reduce CO2 pollution by regionalizing the production of components and upstream products.
End-to-end digital networking of the automated production line simplifies the tracking of components and logging of production data, thus contributing decisively to increasing efficiency and quality assurance.
Partnerships and stakeholder interaction

The established business model of Einhell Germany AG is to be maintained in the new location. To achieve its goals, Einhell has focused heavily on creating networks between the location and key stakeholders in the region. “We specifically seek interaction with potential corporate partners to promote the project and to ensure long-term support,” Dr. Markus Thannhuber said. This includes ongoing discussions with local authorities and collaboration with universities and training centers.
