Rising interest rates and global crisis hotspots dominated the stock markets in 2023

The stock market year 2023 was turbulent, characterized mainly by rising interest rates, high inflation rates, crises in Ukraine and the Middle East, and a weakening overall economic development in many major economies. After a significant decline in the stock market year 2022, the DAX steadily recovered until mid-2023. Concerns about further rising interest rates and the development of the global economy led to a downturn in the DAX in the third quarter. When the situation between Israel and Hamas escalated in the Middle East, the DAX hit its low point of approximately 14,800 points at the end of October. By the end of the year, hopes for falling interest rates and the leading index also rose. The DAX closed the year with a gain of around 20%.
